Poconos & Philadelphia

October 11 - 13, 2024

Following our three-day retreat and preview concert in the Pocono Mountains, Coro Mundi returned to Philadelphia with an exciting program featuring the premiere of two works by composer Alex Berko. The centerpiece of the program was the Philadelphia premiere of Berko’s Sacred Place, a six-movement work for choir, piano, violin, and cello that the composer called “an impassioned prayer for the world we inhabit and share.”

The choir also performed the world premiere of Berko’s Limits of Your Longing, commissioned for this occasion by Coro Mundi, alongside works by Palestrina, Edwin Fissinger, Marek Raczynski, and Moira Smiley.

The performance marked Coro Mundi’s first appearance at St. Vincent de Paul, a beautiful and acoustically warm church at 109 E. Price St. in Philadelphia. Twenty-five percent of ticket proceeds were donated to Face to Face Germantown, a nonprofit that provides meals and vital social services to local families and individuals experiencing poverty.
